With a good variety of animals that you can adopt as your pet out there, people now need more specific reasons to pick a certain one to accept into their home. Today, it’s not only just for companionship and having something to take care of.
Now, there needs to be a good synergy between the lifestyle of the master and the pet. So, in case you’re now still undecided whether to get a chicken pet, here are a few points which might help you completely turn the scales in favor of that choice.
1 – A Pet That Is Very Low Maintenance
Essentially, a chicken pet won’t need as much attention from you as other animal pets. They don’t need to be walked, groomed, or fed two times a day. If you get good sized food and water containers, and if you keep only a few, then you won’t need to refill their feeders very often (but don’t forget!)
As for their coops, you’ll only need to clean out the bedding once a month.
2 – A Pet That Also Rewards You
How many pets can you own that will actually produce something for you. How about something edible? You can’t really think of a lot, right? Chicken pets are actually among the few that do.
Chickens lay on average 5 eggs a week, so that’s free, one hundred percent organic fresh eggs being produced with little input on your part. What’s more is that they taste a whole lot better than the kind you buy from supermarkets – they’re a whole lot more nutritious too.
As you’ll find out later why exactly this is, a chicken pet raised in your backyard will produce eggs that are lower in cholesterol and higher in Omega-3 fatty acids and Vitamin E.
3 – Save at Least a Few Chickens
From what? As mentioned earlier, chickens raised in factory farms (and whose eggs are sold in supermarkets) are actually inferior in every way to those raised as pets. This is because a chicken pet actually lives in better conditions than those who live on chicken farms.
Most would agree that the treatment for these animals, are all too cruel. So if you’re one of those people who would rather not have anything to do with these cruel practices, then you might as well adopt a few chickens and lessen the demand for factory farm chicken eggs in your own little way.
4 – Help in Your Gardening
Do you want a good ally to help you keep the plants in your garden healthy? Do you want to stop using chemicals to protect your plants? Of course you do! Well, here’s the thing…
A chicken pet would love to go exploring in your garden and look for all sorts of bugs to eat. As an added bonus, while they get rid of pests, they will then turn it into fertilizer (in the form of chicken poop, of course. Well, whoever said that gardening wasn’t a dirty business anyway?)
Want an added bonus? Chickens will also eat leaves, grass clippings and weeds for you. Give it to them after you trim your garden and it’ll be gone within a week.
Time to get cracking on your new pet…
